On Friday 25th May, Glinwell were delighted to receive a visit from Labour Member of the European Parliament for the East of England, Alex Mayer MEP to discuss Brexit and the future of British tomatoes. Her constituencies are predominantly rural, including Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, so Alex was keen to visit a British growing site within her region and get involved with British Tomato Fortnight.

Alex Mayer met with Head of Technical and Chairman of the British Tomato Growers’ Association Matthew Simon, and Directors Sam Cannatella and Joe Colletti, at our Essex Growers site to walk around the tomato glasshouses, learn about the growing process, and to discuss the importance of labour and the impact Brexit may have on our workforce. With 97% of our 400 pickers and packers from other European countries, the prospect of Brexit affecting our labour is high.
